I find the titles all fresh and intriguing, if a little confusing. My review of The Blade Itself, the first book in this trilogy, was one of the more vicious reviews I've written. The First Law consists of The Blade Itself, Before They Are Hanged, and Last Argument of Kings. Thanks to Joe Abercrombie, we've got a look at the new cover for Before they are Hanged, the second volume of his First Law Trilogy. For those folks, and any old-timers who require a refresher, a tiny primer: the Bath-bound family man made his name less than a decade ago with the opening volume of The First Law. The Blade Itself, the first book of The First Law trilogy, was published in 2005, with the sequels, Before They Are Hanged and Last Argument of Kings, following in 2007 and 2008. Before They Are Hanged demonstrated The Blade Itself's success had been no happy accident, and with Last Argument of Kings Abercrombie cemented his reputation as one of fantasy's finest. My favorite character was Sand dan Glokta, formerly a dashing and successful young officer who was captured and spent two years being tortured in a dungeon.
